PureHealth, the Middle East’s largest healthcare group, has launched the UAE’s largest and most advanced AI-powered standalone diagnostic laboratory through its subsidiary, PureLab, marking a major milestone in the country’s diagnostic and precision-medicine capabilities.
Spanning 70,000 square feet, the seven-storey flagship facility is designed to transform national diagnostic services through advanced AI-driven automation, real-time quality control, and seamless integration with a network of more than 140 laboratories holding over 50 international accreditations. The lab is capable of processing over 30 million samples annually, with built-in capacity for future expansion to meet the UAE’s growing demand for advanced diagnostics.
The facility was officially inaugurated by His Excellency Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi (DoH), alongside Her Excellency Dr. Noura Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, Shaista Asif, Group Chief Executive Officer of PureHealth, Rashed Saif Al Qubaisi, Group Chief Operating Officer of PureHealth, and senior representatives from DoH and PureLab.
Commenting on the launch, Her Excellency Dr. Fayeza Saif Alyafei, Executive Director of the Healthcare Quality Sector at DoH, said the facility represents a significant step in advancing Abu Dhabi’s vision for a smart, integrated, and patient-centred healthcare system. She noted that AI-enabled diagnostic infrastructure plays a critical role in enhancing accuracy, accelerating care delivery, and strengthening health outcomes, while positioning Abu Dhabi as a regional leader in precision diagnostics and sustainable healthcare development.
Operating 24/7, the AI-powered lab integrates artificial intelligence, robotics, energy-efficient infrastructure, and the UAE’s most advanced sample transport and automation systems. It offers more than 1,800 test parameters across multiple specialties, including anatomic pathology, molecular genetics, hematopathology, histocompatibility testing for organ and bone marrow transplants, infectious disease detection, and environmental testing.
The facility is supported by a multidisciplinary workforce of 1,300 expert consultants, combining expertise in laboratory management and clinical operations. The model is designed to prioritise AI-enhanced diagnostic accuracy, clinical relevance, and strict data confidentiality.
Arindam Haldar, Chief Executive Officer of PureLab, said the new facility establishes a national cornerstone for essential health programmes such as newborn screening, infectious disease surveillance, and transplant compatibility testing. He added that the lab sets new benchmarks in AI-driven innovation, quality, and accessibility, reinforcing the UAE’s vision for a data-driven, world-class healthcare ecosystem.
At the core of the lab’s innovation is an AI-powered digital pathology platform using Whole Slide Imaging (WSI), which converts traditional pathology slides into high-resolution digital images for rapid, AI-assisted analysis. As the central hub of the Digital Pathology Initiative, the facility connects oncology centres nationwide, enabling real-time remote slide review, virtual consultations, and faster clinical decision-making. Routine clinical pathology services, including chemistry, immunoassay, serology, coagulation, and microbiology, further position the lab as the country’s most advanced diagnostic centre.
The facility also integrates multiple sustainability measures, including a fully hybrid transport fleet, paperless digital reporting, energy-efficient window films, and rooftop solar panels, supporting the UAE’s net-zero emissions strategy.
Designed for centralised efficiency, the lab enables healthcare providers to access a wide range of diagnostic services through a unified platform, reducing reliance on multiple laboratories while improving cost-effectiveness. It also supports community-based diagnostics through walk-in services and home-testing pilots, aligning with the UAE’s patient-centric, data-driven healthcare agenda.
