Healthcare CEOs Bet on AI, Workforce Transformation to Meet Rising Demand
As global healthcare systems face mounting pressure from aging populations and the rapid emergence of new therapies, healthcare leaders are increasingly turning to digitalisation and artificial intelligence (AI) to bridge widening gaps in care delivery. According to insights from KPMG India’s 2025 Global Healthcare CEO Outlook, healthcare CEOs remain optimistic about the future, even as the sector navigates regulatory uncertainty, cyber security threats, workforce shortages and persistent supply chain disruptions.
The report highlights that while AI is emerging as a critical enabler of transformation, healthcare executives do not view it as a standalone solution to the industry’s complex challenges. Instead, organisations are adopting a broader strategic approach that combines technology investments with workforce development and operational restructuring.
A key focus area for healthcare CEOs is workforce transformation. Many leaders are re-evaluating talent strategies to maximise AI’s potential through employee training, upskilling and the integration of AI into everyday clinical and administrative workflows. Automation is increasingly being explored as a means to reduce administrative burdens, improve operational efficiency and allow healthcare professionals to dedicate more time to patient care.
Highlighting the relevance of these trends in the Indian healthcare ecosystem, Lalit Mistry, Partner and Co-Head, Healthcare Sector at KPMG India, said:
“In India, these considerations are equally relevant, as healthcare stakeholders continue to engage with digital health initiatives and explore ways to strengthen capacity, improve coordination, and address access across the ecosystem. This Outlook highlights how healthcare organisations are assessing a range of approaches spanning technology adoption, workforce strategies, and partnerships in response to a changing healthcare environment.”
The findings also underscore a growing recognition that sustainable healthcare transformation will require balancing technological innovation with resilience against evolving external risks. From changing regulatory landscapes to cyber security vulnerabilities, healthcare organisations continue to face significant operational pressures that could impact long-term growth and patient outcomes.
Despite these challenges, healthcare CEOs remain confident that strategic investments in technology, digital transformation and workforce capabilities will help unlock a more efficient, accessible and patient-centric healthcare future for communities worldwide.
