Microsoft has introduced Dragon Copilot, the healthcare industry’s first unified voice AI assistant designed to streamline clinical documentation, surface critical information, and automate tasks. This innovation merges the capabilities of Dragon Medical One (DMO) and DAX Copilot (DAX) to enhance clinician well-being, improve efficiency, elevate patient experiences, and drive financial impact.
Revolutionizing Healthcare Documentation with AI
REDMOND, Wash. – March 3, 2025 – Microsoft Corp. has announced Microsoft Dragon Copilot, an advanced AI-powered clinical workflow assistant that integrates natural language voice dictation from DMO with the ambient listening and AI capabilities of DAX. As part of Microsoft Cloud for Healthcare, Dragon Copilot is built on a secure modern architecture to transform clinical workflows across care settings.
Addressing Clinician Burnout Through AI
Recent studies indicate that clinician burnout in the U.S. declined from 53% in 2023 to 48% in 2024, partly due to technological advancements. However, workforce shortages and the pressures of an aging population continue to challenge healthcare providers. AI-powered solutions like Dragon Copilot are helping healthcare organizations reduce administrative burdens, optimize workflows, and enhance patient care.
“At Microsoft, we believe AI has the power to relieve clinicians of administrative burdens, allowing them to focus on patient care,” said Joe Petro, Corporate VP, Microsoft Health and Life Sciences Solutions and Platforms. “With Dragon Copilot, we’re introducing a unified voice AI experience that enhances provider wellness while improving both clinical and financial outcomes.”
Transforming Healthcare Operations with AI-Powered Capabilities
Dragon Copilot combines DMO’s speech recognition technology, which has facilitated billions of clinical records, with DAX’s ambient AI, which has supported over 3 million patient conversations across 600 healthcare organizations in the past month alone. Early results include:
- 5 minutes saved per encounter
- 70% of clinicians reporting reduced burnout and fatigue
- 62% less likelihood of clinicians leaving their organizations
- 93% of patients reporting improved experiences
Key Features of Dragon Copilot
1. Streamlining Documentation:
- AI-powered ambient note creation
- Automated tasks and multi-language support
- Natural language dictation, speech memos, and customized text templates
2. Surfacing Critical Information:

Availability and Future Expansion
Dragon Copilot will launch in May 2025 in the U.S. and Canada, followed by expansions into the U.K., Germany, France, and the Netherlands. Microsoft is also working to extend Dragon Medical’s AI-powered capabilities into additional key markets.
“We recognize the challenges of administrative burnout and limited care access,” said Glen Kearns, EVP & CIO, The Ottawa Hospital. “Dragon Copilot represents a major step in alleviating documentation burdens for our clinical teams.”
