Abu Dhabi-based healthcare innovator M42, a company leveraging artificial intelligence (AI) and backed by sovereign wealth fund Mubadala, has announced a comprehensive internal restructuring. This move aligns with its ambitious plans for future growth, acquisitions, and global market expansion.

The restructuring introduces four specialized platforms designed to enhance autonomy and accountability across its operations. According to M42’s statement, the platforms include:

  1. Global Patient Care Platform: Integrating domestic and international health assets to streamline care delivery.
  2. AI Life Sciences Platform: Dedicated to advancing drug discovery and development through cutting-edge AI technology.
  3. National Programs Platform: Focusing on initiatives such as genomics and digital health.
  4. Population Health Platform: Addressing broader health initiatives with a focus on public health outcomes.

Strategic mergers, acquisitions, and corporate financing decisions will continue to be managed at the group level under the leadership of Group CEO Hasan Jasem Al Nowais. Highlighting their plans, Al Nowais stated, “We are actively reviewing a shortlist of deals that align with our strategic ambitions. Our priority markets include the UK, U.S., Europe, the Middle East, and Asia.” He further noted the company’s strong financial position, supported by a robust balance sheet and significant cash reserves.

Abu Dhabi’s Vision for Diversification
This announcement underscores Abu Dhabi’s broader strategy to diversify its oil-reliant economy by investing in key sectors like AI, advanced technology, and healthcare. As the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi continues to position itself as a global hub for innovation.

Established in 2022, M42 represents the merging of health assets from Mubadala and G42, an AI firm controlled by Sheikh Tahnoon bin Zayed Al Nahyan, UAE’s national security adviser. Mubadala, the emirate’s second-largest wealth fund, manages assets worth approximately $330 billion.

M42’s Expanding Global Footprint
With a presence in 26 countries, M42’s portfolio includes renowned healthcare brands such as the Abu Dhabi franchise of Cleveland Clinic and global dialysis provider Diaverum, which it acquired in 2023 from Bridgepoint Group. The company’s global reach and AI-driven innovation position it as a key player in the future of healthcare.

This strategic transformation reflects M42’s mission to redefine healthcare delivery while aligning with Abu Dhabi’s economic diversification goals.
