UAE Abu Dhabi based Mubadala Investment Company, the Abu Dhabi-based sovereign investor, has acquired an 80% stake in Global Medical Supply Chain (GMSC) and Al Ittihad Drug Store (IDS) from GlobalOne Healthcare Holding (GHH). This acquisition aims to bolster Mubadala’s presence in healthcare logistics and pharmaceutical distribution, aligning with the UAE’s vision of establishing a robust life sciences infrastructure. GHH will retain a 20% stake in both companies.

Enhancing Healthcare Logistics and Distribution

Founded in 2015, GMSC specializes in comprehensive supply chain services for medical products, including demand planning, procurement, logistics, inventory management, warehousing, and maintenance. The company serves over 200 medical facilities across the UAE, leveraging a network of nearly 400 suppliers to ensure a reliable and efficient supply chain.

IDS, established in 1987, is a leading distributor of pharmaceutical and consumer healthcare products in the UAE. Its portfolio includes over 1,000 products from more than 40 suppliers, catering to hospitals, pharmacies, and supermarkets nationwide. IDS’s diverse range covers multiple therapeutic categories such as anti-infectives, asthma, diabetes, and oncology.

Strategic Vision for Life Sciences

Ismail Ali Abdulla, Executive Director of UAE Clusters at Mubadala’s UAE investments platform, highlighted the growing demand for specialized drug logistics solutions in the expanding pharmaceutical market. “By integrating GMSC and IDS into our portfolio, we are poised to create a vertically integrated life sciences sector in the UAE, encompassing the entire value chain from logistics and distribution to specialized manufacturing,” Abdulla said.

Commitment to Healthcare Excellence

Low Ping, Group CEO of Yas Holding, noted that this acquisition aligns with Mubadala’s strategic growth trajectory. Mubadala’s specialty pharmaceutical business, KELIX bio, recently acquired full stakes in four pharmaceutical assets from GHH, further reinforcing the company’s commitment to strengthening the UAE’s healthcare infrastructure.

GHH, the healthcare division of Yas Holding, focuses on advancing healthcare outcomes through investments in innovative solutions across various healthcare verticals. These developments underscore Mubadala’s dedication to supporting the UAE’s broader goals of drug security and economic diversification.

This strategic acquisition reflects Mubadala’s proactive role in transforming the UAE’s healthcare landscape and fostering long-term economic growth.
