The Department of Health Abu Dhabi, the healthcare sector regulator for the emirate, has officially launched Sahatna, a comprehensive mobile app that empowers residents to manage their health effortlessly. Offering a wide array of health and wellness services, the app allows users to book appointments, engage in teleconsultations, access health records, and receive genomic reports—all from the convenience of their smartphones.
Unveiled at GITEX Global 2024 – Dubai, the world’s largest technology exhibition in Dubai, this innovative app aims to transform patient experiences across Abu Dhabi. Sahatna is set to drive emirate-wide behavioral changes, contributing to long-term improvements in health outcomes and fostering a healthier future for all residents.
Derived from the Arabic word for “Our Health,” Sahatna signifies a pivotal moment in the DoH’s commitment to leveraging data to build a patient-centered, intelligent healthcare system. The app addresses the unique health needs of Abu Dhabi’s population, reinforcing the DoH’s vision of a healthier tomorrow.
Key Features of Sahatna
One of Sahatna’s most notable features is its advanced appointment scheduling system, providing users access to Abu Dhabi’s entire healthcare ecosystem. Patients can choose to interact with healthcare providers either in person or via video consultations. The app also integrates with Malaffi (Abu Dhabi Health Information Exchange), allowing users to view medical records and manage their family’s health, including screening and vaccination histories. Notably, participants in the Emirati Genome Program (EGP) can access personalized wellness and lifestyle reports based on their unique genetic profiles, empowering them to make informed health decisions.
The launch event was attended by key figures, including H.E. Mansoor Ibrahim Al Mansoori, Chairman of DoH, and H.E. Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi, Undersecretary of DoH, alongside several prominent leaders and stakeholders.
Her Excellency Dr. Noura Khamis Al Ghaithi remarked, “Abu Dhabi continues to strengthen its position as a global leader in healthcare, transforming patient care and population health management. At the DoH, our goal is to create a thriving society by enabling our residents to lead happier, healthier, and longer lives. With innovations like Sahatna, we are seamlessly integrating our healthcare ecosystem to enhance access, quality, and personalized wellness for everyone.”
The app’s advanced features include an AI-powered symptom checker, which provides potential diagnoses based on user-inputted symptoms, helping users decide whether to seek emergency care or visit a healthcare center. It also integrates with wearable devices to track health metrics like sleep and activity, offering personalized wellness goals to encourage healthier lifestyles.
Sahatna was developed in partnership with Abu Dhabi Health Data Services (ADHDS), operator of Malaffi, to deliver innovative digital health solutions.
Kareem Shahin, CEO of ADHDS, highlighted the collaboration’s transformative potential, stating, “Our partnership with the DoH for Sahatna is a significant step toward a healthier, more connected future. This collaboration will not only enhance access to quality healthcare but also empower individuals to lead vibrant and fulfilling lives.”
Ibrahim AlJallaf, Executive Director of Digital Health at DoH, added that over 60% of healthcare facilities in Abu Dhabi are already connected to Sahatna. “This is just the beginning. We are developing a roadmap filled with advanced features tailored to individual needs, making healthcare more efficient and personalized than ever before.” He emphasized upcoming enhancements, including expanded access to primary care services and an AI-powered patient assistant.
Visitors to Abu Dhabi can also benefit from Sahatna, which provides information on nearby healthcare facilities and available services, along with options for both in-person and remote consultations.
