Abu Dhabi, UAE: PureHealth has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society (NMSS) to strengthen multiple sclerosis (MS) awareness, support earlier diagnosis and expand access to coordinated, evidence-based care across the UAE.
The partnership brings together PureHealth’s clinical expertise and healthcare network with NMSS’s experience in advocacy, education and community support. The collaboration will also contribute to international research initiatives focused on advancing MS treatment and ultimately finding a cure for the condition.
The agreement further supports PureHealth’s role as a founding member of the National Coalition for MS and reinforces its commitment to promoting consistent, evidence-based standards of MS care across the UAE.
Advancing Early Diagnosis and Coordinated Care
Multiple sclerosis is a chronic neurological condition affecting the brain and spinal cord. It can result in physical, cognitive and mobility-related challenges and commonly emerges during early to middle adulthood. An estimated 2.9 million people worldwide are living with MS.
A key priority of the partnership will be the implementation of the UAE’s first MS Treatment Guidelines across clinical practice and health insurance systems. The guidelines were led and published by NMSS.
Their adoption is expected to support earlier diagnosis, facilitate timely access to highly effective treatments and strengthen coordination among healthcare providers and insurers. The initiative also seeks to establish more consistent standards of MS care across the country.
The partnership will place particular emphasis on vulnerable patient groups, including children and pregnant and breastfeeding women. It will also promote patient-centred care by encouraging people living with MS to take an active role in decisions concerning their treatment and ongoing care.
Expanding Research, Training and Patient Support
PureHealth and NMSS will collaborate on MS research and data collection in the UAE, supporting the development of local disease insights and contributing to national studies, patient registries and future scientific publications.
More than 1,300 healthcare professionals are expected to benefit from Continuing Medical Education (CME)-accredited training sessions led by MS specialists. The educational programme will align with the strategic direction of the Department of Health – Abu Dhabi.
Nurses will be a particular focus of the initiative, with efforts aimed at strengthening their role in care coordination, patient education and ongoing support. Dedicated community sessions will also be organised for patients and caregivers.
Public awareness efforts will include webinars, workshops and digital campaigns designed to improve understanding of MS, increase recognition of potential symptoms and encourage people to seek medical attention at an earlier stage.
Building a More Connected MS Care Ecosystem
Leya Aldamani, Chief Sustainability Officer at PureHealth, said the partnership would bring together clinical expertise, data and coordinated care pathways to support earlier intervention and improve long-term outcomes for people living with MS.
“By strengthening clinical capability and embedding more patient-centred models of care, our goal is to contribute to building a more connected and proactive healthcare system,” she said.
Maral Alexandrian, Acting Executive Director of NMSS, said the collaboration reflected a shared commitment to strengthening the UAE’s MS healthcare ecosystem through greater awareness, earlier intervention and more coordinated support for patients and their families.
The partnership represents another step toward establishing a more integrated MS care pathway in the UAE, combining clinical expertise, professional education, research, patient advocacy and community engagement.
