As digital health tools continue to generate vast amounts of patient data, many individuals struggle to interpret what their test results, wearable metrics, or health records actually mean. Addressing this growing gap between data collection and actionable understanding, Microsoft has introduced Copilot Health, a new AI-powered platform designed to help users interpret their personal health information and prepare for more informed clinical conversations.

The company announced the launch of Copilot Health as a secure environment within its AI assistant ecosystem, enabling users to consolidate health records, wearable data, and medical history into a unified profile. The platform applies advanced artificial intelligence to identify patterns and deliver personalized health insights intended to support—but not replace—clinical decision-making.

Bridging the Gap Between Health Data and Understanding

Modern healthcare increasingly relies on digital data streams, from laboratory test results to wearable-generated health metrics. However, the volume and complexity of this information often leave patients confused about its significance.

Copilot Health aims to address this challenge by transforming fragmented health information into structured insights. By integrating data such as sleep patterns, activity levels, vital signs, and clinical records, the system can highlight correlations—such as potential links between poor sleep quality and broader health trends—helping users better understand their own health narratives.

Microsoft emphasizes that the tool is designed to complement healthcare providers rather than replace them. By helping patients arrive at medical appointments with clearer context and more focused questions, the company believes the technology can enhance the value of clinician–patient interactions.

Growing Demand for Trusted Digital Health Information

The launch also reflects the increasing reliance on digital tools for health information. According to Microsoft, its consumer products already respond to more than 50 million health-related questions daily, covering topics ranging from symptom interpretation to locating nearby healthcare services.

To improve the reliability of responses, Copilot integrates curated medical information sourced from credible health organizations across more than 50 countries. Content verification follows principles established by the National Academy of Medicine, while additional expert-reviewed health information is provided through collaborations with institutions such as Harvard Health Publishing.

The platform also allows users to search for physicians who accept their insurance, connecting with real-time U.S. provider directories to filter clinicians by specialty, location, language, and insurance coverage.

Integrating Health Records and Wearable Data

A key feature of Copilot Health is its ability to aggregate personal health data from multiple sources into a centralized dashboard.

Users can connect data streams from more than 50 wearable devices, including platforms such as Apple Health, Oura, and Fitbit, alongside electronic health records obtained through HealthEx, which integrates with over 50,000 healthcare providers and hospitals in the United States.

The system also incorporates comprehensive laboratory results from Function Health, enabling users to review test outcomes and long-term trends in a single interface.

Advancing Toward AI-Driven Medical Intelligence

Copilot Health is part of Microsoft’s broader strategy to develop advanced healthcare AI systems capable of analyzing complex clinical patterns. The platform draws on technologies such as the Microsoft AI Diagnostic Orchestrator, which the company says has demonstrated promising performance in research environments.

Future research publications are expected to detail how such AI systems could support clinical reasoning across diverse medical cases. Microsoft describes the long-term goal as creating health AI capable of combining the broad knowledge of general practitioners with specialist-level expertise.

However, the company states that new AI capabilities will undergo rigorous clinical evaluation before being integrated into Copilot Health and will be clearly labeled to maintain transparency.

Privacy and Security Framework

Given the sensitivity of health data, Microsoft has implemented additional privacy safeguards within Copilot Health. Conversations and health information stored within the platform remain separate from general Copilot interactions and are protected through encryption, strict access controls, and user-managed data permissions.

Users retain the ability to disconnect external health data sources—including electronic health records or wearable devices—and can delete their stored information at any time. Microsoft also confirms that personal health data within Copilot Health will not be used to train AI models.

The platform has achieved certification under ISO/IEC 42001, a global framework governing responsible AI management systems.

Collaboration with Global Medical Experts

Development of Copilot Health involved Microsoft’s internal clinical team as well as an external advisory panel of more than 230 physicians across 24 countries, providing medical oversight and safety guidance.

The company also collaborated with patient advocacy organizations including AARP, representing nearly 38 million older Americans, and the National Health Council, which works with over 180 patient advocacy groups.

These partnerships aim to ensure the platform is accessible and usable across diverse patient populations.

Phased Rollout and Availability

Microsoft is introducing Copilot Health through a phased rollout, beginning with a waitlist for early users who will help shape the platform’s development.

Initially, the service will launch in English in the United States for adults aged 18 and older, with additional languages and geographic expansion planned in the future.

The company also emphasizes that Copilot Health is not intended to diagnose, treat, or prevent disease and should not be considered a substitute for professional medical advice.
