Digital healthcare in Saudi Arabia continues to accelerate, and Bupa CareConnect has taken a decisive step forward.
The healthcare services provider has partnered with InterSystems to implement the TrakCare unified health information system across its virtual clinic, home healthcare offerings, and upcoming physical clinics. The move signals a structural shift toward integrated, digitally connected care—aligned closely with the objectives of Saudi Vision 2030.
Rather than a surface-level technology upgrade, the deployment of TrakCare establishes a single platform designed to support the full patient journey across multiple care settings.
Dr. Abdullah Khafagy, Executive Director Medical at Bupa CareConnect, described the collaboration as a milestone in advancing connected care, noting that it will enable “a seamless, digitally integrated experience” for members across services.
How the system will function
At the core of the initiative is InterSystems TrakCare, a unified electronic health record and healthcare information platform.
Under the partnership, TrakCare will serve as the central system connecting:
- Virtual consultations and telemedicine services
- Home healthcare delivery
- Physical clinics as they come online
- Clinical and administrative workflows
- Third-party systems across the broader healthcare ecosystem
The cloud-enabled platform is built for scalability and supports Saudi healthcare regulations, including alignment with NPHIES, the Kingdom’s national health insurance exchange. This enables secure data sharing, improved clinician visibility, and more efficient administrative operations across care settings.
According to Ali Abi Raad, Managing Director at InterSystems, TrakCare provides the interoperability and analytics capabilities required to support new models of care, while also laying the groundwork for AI-enabled, personalised healthcare in the future.
Why it matters
Continuity of care remains one of the most persistent challenges in healthcare delivery. Fragmented systems often lead to delays, duplicated tests, and clinical risk.
With a unified platform in place, Bupa CareConnect members are expected to benefit from:
- Faster and more coordinated access to care
- Improved safety and handling of clinical data
- A consistent experience from appointment booking through follow-up
- Better integration between virtual, home-based, and in-clinic services
Operationally, the organisation stands to gain from:
- Unified clinical and administrative workflows
- Stronger governance and regulatory compliance
- Advanced analytics to support population health planning
- A digital foundation ready for AI-driven insights and decision support
In practical terms, the platform aims to reduce friction in care delivery while improving outcomes.
The broader context
The partnership comes at a critical moment in Saudi Arabia’s healthcare transformation. Under Vision 2030, digital health infrastructure, interoperability, and patient-centric care models are no longer optional—they are strategic priorities.
InterSystems brings established regional experience, having been among the first healthcare IT providers to achieve NPHIES compliance for insurance services in the Kingdom. NPHIES itself plays a central role in Saudi Arabia’s digital health ecosystem, overseen by the Cooperative Health Insurance Council and the National Center for Health Information under the SEHATI program.
For Bupa CareConnect—the care delivery arm of Bupa Arabia—the adoption of TrakCare reflects a clear strategic intent. Rather than incremental upgrades, the organisation is investing in platform-level integration designed to support scale, coordination, and personalisation.
In a healthcare system under pressure to expand access while maintaining quality, such foundational decisions may not be headline-grabbing—but they are the ones that endure.
