“Your Body as a Google Map for Diagnosis and Treatment” – Dr. A.V. Gurava Reddy

In a landmark move for Indian healthcare, KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet, has unveiled India’s first Augmented Reality (AR)-enabled OPD services, redefining how patients experience consultations and diagnosis. This cutting-edge technology provides real-time, AR-based visualizations of internal organs, offering a “Google Map” of the human body to enhance both patient understanding and medical precision.

Announcing this breakthrough, Dr. A.V. Gurava Reddy, Managing Director of KIMS Sunshine Hospital, highlighted that this innovation represents another step forward in integrating advanced medical technologies into patient care. Through AR-based scanning, doctors can now detect and assess conditions such as trauma, cancers, ulcers, and gastrointestinal issues with greater clarity.

The initiative is powered by a collaboration with SKIA, a leading South Korean medical technology company. While AR platforms have previously been utilized for surgical navigation, this marks the world’s first AR-powered OPD experience, officially launched on Wednesday at KIMS Sunshine Hospital, Begumpet.

Key Highlights of AR-Enabled OPD Services:

  • World’s first AR-based prescription system for OPD consultations.
  • 3D visualization of organ systems for better patient understanding.
  • Enhanced diagnosis in Medical & Surgical Gastroenterology, Urology, Gynaecology, Hepatology, Cardiology, Neurosurgery, and other specialties.
  • Conversion of CT and MRI scans into markerless 3D visualizations to support patient education and surgical planning.
  • 100+ successful AR-based surgeries conducted globally by SKIA with 99% hospital recommendation rates and 100% patient satisfaction.

Dr. E. Vimalakar Reddy, Consultant Surgical Gastroenterologist & Liver Transplant Surgeon, and Dr. Rohan Reddy, Senior Consultant Gastroenterologist, emphasized that AR-based prescriptions are designed in a visual, easy-to-understand format, ensuring accessibility even for illiterate or rural patients.

Mr. Sudhakar Jadhav, Chief Operating Officer of KIMS Sunshine Hospital, confirmed that this advanced OPD service is now available at the Begumpet branch. Mr. Abhishek Bandaru, COO of SKIA India, noted that SKIA, with over 17 years of experience, has pioneered innovations such as the world’s first AR-based neurosurgery and the “EZ TEP” hernia technique, signifying a revolutionary leap in healthcare technology.
