Prisma Health has opened a new $3.7 million Behavioral Health and Wellness Pavilion, significantly expanding outpatient behavioral health services in South Carolina. The facility, located on the Greenville Memorial Hospital Campus, is expected to triple patient access to essential mental health care in the Upstate region.

The 24,000-square-foot pavilion houses an array of therapy options, including services previously provided by the Brownell Center—now expanded and renamed the Grove Road Clinic. Additionally, the facility features five specialty day treatment programs, including the state’s first mother-infant wellness program designed to support women experiencing depression and anxiety during pregnancy and postpartum.

Addressing Critical Behavioral Health Needs

Adult programs focused on behavioral health and substance use disorders are set to launch by the end of the month, while adolescent-focused services—including an eating disorders program and a general behavioral health disorders program—are slated to open in May.

Dr. Karen Lommel, the Robert A. Jolley Jr. Endowed Chair of Psychiatry and Community Health for Prisma Health, highlighted the importance of these programs, particularly for patients needing a level of care beyond traditional outpatient visits but not requiring hospitalization.

“Day treatment programs provide structured, intensive care while allowing patients to return home each night for support from family and friends,” said Lommel. “This expansion ensures more individuals in our communities have access to the behavioral health resources they need.”

A Broader Commitment to Mental Health

Prisma Health, a private nonprofit health system with over 32,000 employees, operates 19 acute and specialty hospitals and more than 320 practice sites. The outpatient expansion aligns with the construction of a 112-bed behavioral health hospital, part of a nearly $143 million investment aimed at strengthening both outpatient and inpatient mental health services in the region.

Each year, Prisma Health serves more than 1.6 million patients across South Carolina and Tennessee, reinforcing its role as a key provider of mental health care in the Southeast.
