Max Healthcare Institute Limited (BSE:543220) is accelerating its expansion strategy through acquisitions and brownfield developments, according to Chairman and Managing Director Abhay Soi. Speaking on January 30, 2025, Soi emphasized the hospital chain’s focus on inorganic growth to meet rising healthcare demands.

As part of this strategy, Max Healthcare’s board has approved a new agreement to establish a 500-bed hospital in Thane, Maharashtra, under a built-to-suit model in partnership with VR Konkan Pvt Ltd. Additionally, the board has amended a prior agreement for a built-to-suit hospital in Mohali, increasing its planned capacity from 250 to 400 beds. This model allows hospitals to be custom-built based on the operator’s specifications.

“Inorganic expansion is where growth is headed,” Soi told Mint in an interview. “We are already operating at high occupancy, and there are ample opportunities for expansion. Brownfields, greenfields, and acquisitions are all part of our strategy.”

Max Healthcare has an aggressive brownfield expansion plan for the next six months, complementing its recent acquisitions. Soi expects these capacity additions to create operational synergies within a year. “Next year, we are entering a glory period,” he said.

The company will significantly increase its hospital capacity with 268 additional beds in Nanavati, Mumbai, 155 in Mohali, and 400 in Saket, Delhi, over the next six months. A further 500 beds will be added to its Gurugram facility within the next 11-12 months, reinforcing Max Healthcare’s position as a leader in India’s private hospital sector.
