MultiCare Health System, based in Washington State, has become the first health system to pilot Xsolis‘ new generative AI tool to streamline the appeals process within the mid-revenue cycle. According to Xsolis, the technology automates the creation and submission of appeal letters, saving administrative time while ensuring health plan deadlines are met.
Why This Matters
The adoption of generative AI promises faster reimbursements for hospitals, reduced administrative burden, and significant cost savings. By streamlining documentation, this solution alleviates clinical workloads, enabling clinicians to focus on patient care.
MultiCare has partnered with Xsolis since 2017 to drive operational and clinical efficiencies. This long-standing collaboration has increased case review times by 150% and delivered savings exceeding $8 million, according to Xsolis.
The Bigger Picture
As administrative tasks remain a significant challenge, a recent Harris Poll revealed clinicians spend around 28 hours per week on such responsibilities, including nearly nine hours on documentation alone. Xsolis’ AI tools aim to mitigate these challenges, with the company claiming its predictive and generative AI solutions have collectively saved health systems and health plans over $1.5 billion.
MultiCare Health System operates as a not-for-profit healthcare organization with 13 hospitals across Tacoma, Washington, and beyond. Its leadership views the adoption of this new AI tool as a strategic move toward reducing burnout, enhancing job satisfaction, and achieving financial improvements.
On the Record
“Through our continued partnership with Xsolis, we’ve reduced administrative tasks, improved payer relations, and established a successful track record of operational and financial improvements,” said Debbie Schardt, Assistant Vice President of Revenue Cycle and Utilization Management at MultiCare Health System. “Xsolis’ enhanced generative AI capabilities will build on our successes in critical areas, including reducing burnout, improving job satisfaction, and generating financial savings for the organization.”
